The last few weeks have seen steady progress on both locos.
80097 report
Allan and Nigel have worked on the fireman’s seat, which is now all welded and ready to be painted. A piece of elm will then be needed to complete it. Nigel has also cut the bolts holding down the smokebox to length.
Nigel B has sorted out the lens rings and pipe ends for the main steam pipes, which have now been covered in protective spray and stored.
Sharon has fitted the cylinder cladding covers behind the steam pipes. She then carried on cleaning and sorting out the multitude of spanners and other tools.
Phil and Dave continued work on the lubricator steam heat pipe and lance supply. This is now waiting for a new piece of pipe to complete it.
Stuart welded together the cladding bands and fitted the end clamps.
Hughie and Jim have continued the painting of the steps and various small sections. Hughie and Alan have been polishing the motion ready for the ELR Autumn Steam gala when we hope to have the loco on display out on the bay platform.
Phil has continued fitting the copper pipe work to the lubricator steam heat and smoke box valve.
Dan and Keith have worked on the wagons.
Nigel and Dave have been preparing the cab floor ready for visitors at the Autumn Steam Gala.
Our shop staff continue their valued work, particularly Irene who has manned the shop coach single handed at times.
We continue to have a steady stream of visitors to the workshop, who we are always glad to welcome. Some of them become Standard 4 Group members and some return to join us in working on the loco.
Ivatt Report
Dave, Jim, Dan, Nigel and Allan tackled the trailing drivers, trying to get the boxes to move in the horn guides. This took a lot of effort but they managed to get them to shift.
Allan and Jimmy then jacked up the back of the engine to tackle the two seized trailing axle boxes and after a lot of strenuous effort got them to move. They are now ready to have the final spring hangers cut and the springs can be removed.
Allan and Dave started work on the middle drivers left hand box, which again needed some serious effort.
