Another little snippet on our Ivatt Mogul 46428. When the loco was acquired in the 1980's there were only one set of wheels with the braking system in place. We required
four brake hangars and two brake beams. You may recall last year when we completed the milling of the additional four brake hangars? Well recently we have obtained two
large slabs of steel cut to our requirements but still requiring additional machining to get the correct dimensions. The beams are tapered on two upper and lower planes and
have recesses to accommodate the stub connections at each end where they connect to the brake hangars. The stubs are to be welded in place and then turned on the big
lathe. The brake hangars will be bushed. we will only then require to fabricate the linkages and brake block assemblies to complete the under loco brake gear.
See photos of the two brake hangars. One nearing completion on the milling machine and the other completed on the floor with a couple of the round bar stub ends. Watch this space.
