Ivatt Update April

You may recall that we have been expecting delivery of a new chimney for our Ivatt Mogul. The foundry commissioned were unable to get a product of the required quality so the owners have recovered the pattern and another foundry have been asked to cast a chimney for us. We understand other groups also want new chimneys. We hope to have some positive news soon.

Whilst in discussions with the owners of the pattern it was agreed that they would also have an ejector ring cast. This fits to the underside of the chimney inside the smokebox. It uses steam to create a vacuum which heritage vehicles use for braking the train. This casting is still with the supplier. It is machined and is being retained so that the chimney can be machined to achieve a good fit. Sèe pics of the ejector ring. Watch this space.
