With the ongoing restoration of Standard 4 loco 80097 progressing well, preliminary work has now started on our Ivatt loco 46428.
The first step is to remove the boiler and Allan has been burning off the firebox and smokebox mounting bolts, all of which were severely rusted up.
These bolts were then chiselled through by Jimmy and Harry to clear them. A team effort, using hydraulic jacks under the smokebox ring, has now resulted in the boiler being raised clear of the saddle.
The next step was for Dave, Jimmy, Nigel and Dan to start cutting free the mounting pins on the axle and brake assemblies.
The loco connecting rods have been moved and stored together on trestles, next to the workshop, ready for cleaning up.
