Workshop Update to 15th April

Wednesday, 15th April, 2015

Dave has completed packing the cylinders with insulation and the covers made by Stuart have been fitted. He and Phil have done a final check of all the lubrication pipes and they are now ready for filling with oil and pumping through.

Keith has taken the compensation ring to Heywood to be machined to size to suit the boiler.

Richard and Phil have continued work on the other control valves.

Sharon has made new gaskets and rebuilt the snifting valves.

Harry has finished fitting taper pins into the steam controls in the cab and with Stuart has reinforced the mounting of the running board next to the firebox.
All bolts have now been fitted to the front sanding box assembly and the driving wheel splash covers. The injector manifold is in place and steam pipes are being fitted to it.  New studs have been fitted to the firebox door assembly, which is now complete and ready for painting.

Alan has been bravely sorting out the bolts store with help from Dan.

Nigel has been completing the fitting of the cylinder cocks and sanding valve handles, the steam pipe ends and lens ring and has started work on the final fixings on the ashpan. The front oil pots and their pipes have been prepared ready for final fitting.

We have continued to bend the main copper steam pipes from the injector manifold to the cab controls.

Allan has started work on the assembly of the steam manifold now it has been returned from being impregnated.

Jim, a new member who joined us at the ELR Residents Weekend, where BS4G put on a display stand,  has made a great job of painting round the bunker after it had been filled and smoothed by Mark and Colin.

Our shop staff of Irene, John and Dennis continue to work hard in our sales coach and are currently having a Spring clean out. A new publicity board with up to date photos is being installed in the coach.

Allan, Jimmy and Dan have made a preliminary start on our Ivatt loco (46428) by burning loose the old boiler fixing brackets. These have now been chiselled away by Jimmy and Dan and the boiler is free in the frames ready for removal.

Tidying up of the area outside the workshop has continued and the old boiler part has been lifted onto a flat bed wagon by the help of the ELR crane team.
