Workshop Update 19th April

Wednesday, 19th April, 2017

BR Standard Class 4MT 2-6-4 T  No 80097

The boiler was not ready for the planned hydraulic test on the 13th February although work has been continuing. It was reported that the flue tube holes were all out of round and this greatly extended the tapping process time. The flue tubes have now started being fitted and washout plugs have been installed.

To assist Adam Dalgleish Engineering the Group have machined over 50 stay nuts and sent them to him.

We are hopefull that a hydraulic test will be able to be done in May.

The driver's side con rod lubricating felt pads have been renewed.

Final machining on the injector bodies has been completed and they are ready for final fitting.

At the ELR’s Spring Steam Gala we were able to pull 80097 out of the workshop for display and many visitors were able to climb onto the footplate.

Ivatt ‘Mogul’ Class 2 MT 2-6-0  No 46428

Whilst we await the return of 80097’s boiler we have continued to clean up and paint the pony truck parts.

The BS4G has good relations with other heritage railways and we have recently loaned cross head patterns to the Severn Valley railway and supplied cylinder end covers to the North York Moors railway.
